There is no Download or Trial Version of Dragon Naturally Speaking

I'm so sorry to disappoint  you..I was sad to finally come to that realization as well.

However,  there is good news! There are lots of reviews on this number 1 rate Speech to Text Program. I suggest that you watch a few of them on youtube.  However,  I did also balk about the initial price and the cheapskate in me finally settled on buying a copy from Amazon.com. Here's why:

  There are several older versions of Dragon Naturally Speaking available for sale on Amazon.  You see, if you are like me and only need the software for blogging  or other casual use, you can get away with an older version, like 9 or 10.  I purchased version 10 and it works wonderfully for me.  It types what I say.  What more could I ask for ?

Really, when you think about it,  $99 isn't a whole lot of money to spend on software that will help you type faster and be more productive.

The Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 Home Version runs $99 on the Nuance Website.  Notice that this is a Home version so its geared toward private individuals .  Its not as accurate as the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 Professional which will cost 6 times as much at $599.

Both are packed with features, the most interesting to me is the ability to control your computer using commands like "Search Map" and "New Paragraph" or "Post to" to update a twitter or" Facebook Profile'

What is the Accuracy of Dragon Naturally Speaking?

Well, I'll be honest. At first,  I thought I would have to speak like a robot in order for the program to accurately interpret what I was saying. However, I have found that natural speech is what works best.  You do have to train the speech to  text portion to be the most accurate.  When you first start speaking it will not correctly type a lot of what you say.  The training is slow and tedious and you have to read may paragraphs in the beginning, but the effort pays off later on.  Once you have thoroughly trained the speech to text software,  the Nuance company says that it is 3 times as fast as manual typing.  

Features of Dragon Naturally Speaking

• With Dragon naturally speaking , you can tell your pc what to do and dragon understands your voice commands and does what you say. For example , you can tell your computer to search the web for a dentist in Atlanta and it will.  It even gets better over time for even  greater accuracy.
  
• Another cool feature is that you really don't have to be hands on with your computer , you can sit back and relax and just do the talking. In essence, you can  be in hands free mode and still control the computer
  
• Speech to text is not only for writing articles and the blogging.  You can also send email, instant messages , surf the web and you so much more including gaming by  just using your voice
  

Alternatives to Dragon Naturally Speaking

While i do find Dragon Naturally Speaking to be the best speech to text program ,there are at least two others worth trying. The first , comes with almost all pcs. It is called Windows 7speech recognition program. This program is highly effective, and is definitely a strong competitor given that it comes bundled with the windows operating system. It is a highly accurate and also requires some training. Before I would recommend   purchasing  dragon naturally speaking , i would definitely suggest that you try the windows program first. It just may suit your needs.

The other program that i would recommend, is called Tazti.  The first time that I tried tasty was in April 2010. At that time it was completely free, but nowhere near as effective or accurate as Dragon.  As of November, 2011, this software is no longer free. however unlike dragon , Tazti does offer a free fourteen day trial or demo for download. I highly recommend Tazti.  It doesn't do so well with large words, but small words it captures very well .

Is there free speech to text software. Fortunately, the answer is "yes", and you may already own it!

Back in April, 2011, I began looking for a speech to text software that would help me to blog more frequently. I did a lot of research on speech to text software programs , but most of what I've found, was text to speech programs. That's not what I needed. so, I came across a program called Dragon Naturally Speaking. This program however, can run up to $299.00. This is a lot more than I wanted to spend. So the end I decided to look for some alternatives. Again and most of what I found was not beach to text but rather text to speech. The text to speech programs do the exact opposite of what I needed. Although they are very good, I was trying to avoid typing anything. My typing is absolutely horrible. And I am too slow.  Since I don't like to write, but I do have to blog, I had to find something that would work. I was willing to give dragon in trying, but the cheap skate in me and told me that there had to be an alternative. So my search began. Evidently Microsoft it does have a built in speech to text program. Unfortunately in XP it only works with office 2003. I have office 2007. Obviously this was not a good fit.  For those of you who have windows seven , you can use microsoft office 2007. Most who have reviewed it like Dragon better which is understandable.  

I kept digging, and eventually I found a program called Tazti. I liked  the program because number one it was freed and number two it did almost the same thing as Dragon Naturally Speaking without to the high cost. Of course Dragon  is the leader in the industry but I had to give Tazti a try. This particular post was written using  Tazti . Tazti won't even recognize its own name –keeps spelling it "tasty" .Additionally   there are more than a few errors. For example no matter how slow I say it , the software refuses to properly spell the word blog. In fact,  as I just dictated that the last sentence ,the software rendered "blog" as "block" You will have to be extremely articulate and even still there are no guarantees. I would guess that this free software has about 80% accuracy rate . 

 Another very serious problem with this Dragon Naturally Speaking alternative is with punctuation.  If you indicate  that you would like specific punctuation tazti does a good job of inserting it. For example , the comma that I just used I dictated. But for some crazy reason ,TaztI refuses to capitalize the word I.this really stinks if you are writing a narrative.  

Overall, after demoing Tazti , I decided that I did want to try Dragon Naturally Speaking after all. It doesn't have to cost $299.00. There's always Amazon.com. I purchased my copy on  Amazon for less than $30.00. The software was brand new , the box was sealed , and even came with a headphones. I wasn't expecting The headphones. They  were a nice surprise. It would have been really nice if they let you install it on as many computers as you want. But no software company does that. Dragon Naturally Speaking , allows for three installations. 

Of the two software's Dragon is Ten times  better. But Tazti is cheaper .   By the way ,  Tazti is no longer completely free. There is a free fourteen day trial but the  cost is $29.99 . This is the only advantage over Dragon Naturally Speaking, since it does not offer a free trial.

The best alternative to a free trial is to watch one of the demos on Youtube.  The only downside to this is that the software will work better for users who have trained it, than for users who do not go through the speech recognition training.  So if you see a demo on youtube that doesnt seem too impressive then its likely that the user hasnt gone through the proper steps to train the software to recognize his voice. Alternately ,  when you see a video in which the software is really doing a great job of typing the words that are spoken then it is clear that the user has taken the time to let the software learn his speech pattern.

I personally do own a copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking and although there is no free trial,  you can effective learn about how well the software works by watching some of the reviews on youtube.

You could purchase the software on Ebay, Amazon or even Craigslist.  If you do these, Ebay or Amazon will probably be your best bet . Software purchased on Craigslist can be pretty iffy.  I have heard stories about buying software on Craigslist–even in the box that just doesn't work.  Or you could end up with software that appears to work but then puts viruses or malware on your computer.

Since there is no free trial of Dragon Naturally Speaking Software, you should consider buying it online. I bought mine at Amazon and paid less than $30 for it . It was new in the box and had never been registered. I love it and it even came with a headset.

That is a good question and because I needed an alternative,it is one that I was really interested in finding out.  I actually ordered Dragon Naturally Speaking back in March of this year. At first I spent time looking for a free trial.  But I couldn't find an active link anywhere. Actually, there were a few links from about 2007 which said you could do a trial of the Dragon software, but they didn't work.  From what I have read the Nuance company has taken the links down because they want to assure that all testers get an accurate Dragon experience and this is not possible with so many different microphones available.  So now if you want to try it you have to buy it. Than of course the downside is that it probably isn't returnable.  I'll have to double check on their return policy. 

 Dragon naturally Speaking needs an alternative for several reasons, Number one is price.  The software ain't cheap. However, it does work. So if you've got the $100 dollars to shell out on the talk to text software go for it.  If you don't have the money or want to test that this is even the right type of software for your need,  consider downloading a FREE Alternative to Dragon Naturally Speaking . There are other software that actually do the same thing. the quality may not be as good as Dragon who seems to have really mastered this technology,  but they do work . 

My favorite alternative software to Dragon Naturally speaking is Tazti.  This software I found by googling " talk to text software. " This program simplifies the talk to text concept and makes it a cinch to use. Dragon used up a lot of memory and space on my hard drive.  I only recommend it if you have a newer computer.  The Tazti program was lightweight and responded very fast. The Dragon program had a little spinning flame icon that would start spinning when you speak a word..then it woudl type the word and wait for the next word. 

Tazti was much faster Im running Windows XP with just 1 gig of RAM and it works perfectly.  And did I mention it was FREE! You just tell it a command" Go jot a note tab" Which means go to  the jot down a note tab. Then it opens a screen where you can type. Of course you can also type into any email editor, wordpress page editor , games  and so much more. 

If you are considering Dragon and don't have the cash,  try the Alternative to Dragon Naturally Speaking called  Tazti. The main limitation I found is that it isn't as good as dragon when trying to distinguish words like "bed" and "ded" > It also confuses words with a "f "or th sound. 
However you can train the program to recognize your voice patterns and learn how you speak better.

So of course since I'm so cheap I decided to look for a free alternative. I wanted some free speech to text software that at least I could try. I was absolutely willing to pay for the Dragon NaturallySpeaking software but I have to see the work first. I wanted to make sure that the technology was really up to par. I did watch a few videos on YouTube and they looked impressive but I wasn't convinced that it would work for me. So I started to look for free speech to text software. Now a lot of people probably don't know this but there is a free speech to text program that actually included in Windows XP if you are also running office 2007. However the support is extremely sketchy. There is a very confusing information, even conflicting on Microsoft's website and there's not much available online. Fortunately for me I did happen to have office 2007 installed and there was a guide online that explained it from start to finish. It didn't work right away, but after little tweaking I got it to work. I will say this–it is very sketchy. It didn't come close to the Dragon naturally speaking software that I had seen demonstrated on  YouTube. I wasn't impressed.

Next I started looking for another alternative. I found a software called talk it type it so I will I decided to give it a try. Talk it type it was the biggest disappointment. It managed to get about 10% of my words correct. What a waste of time! I began my search again, and this time I found a software called Tazti. Now Tazti is a speech to text recognition software which has a free and paid version. I'm not sure why anyone would buy the paid version because the free version worked pretty well. So I began to use the free version and I was impressed! I would guess that Tazti got about 80% of my words correct. But it wasn't enough for me because I still had to go back in and do all these manual corrections are figured I might as well just typed article–which is what I wanted to avoid in the first place. Since I needed a higher degree of accuracy my search was not over. Have this nagging suspicion that Dragon would work better, I headed over to Amazon to get my copy. I  ordered it on a Friday and it arrived on Monday. That was cool. Now figured this speech to text software absolutely has to work because it supposed to be the best in the industry . I installed it and right away the software told me that I didn't have enough RAM. It warns me that the program would be running kind of slow on my system. I never even realized that I only had .99 GB of RAM. Dragon naturally speaking requires two GB of RAM as a minimum. But I installed it anyway I figured at this point I've already waited three weeks test it out software didn't work, I'll deal with the RAM issue later.
  As of today, Dragon naturally speaking for almost a week and I will admit that it's well worth the money and you get what you pay for. The free text-to-speech software really doesn't even come close to what Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 11 is able to do.

Before you can get one of these work at home  jobs, you really have to make sure that you are dealing with a legitimate company.  There are so many scams out there that you really do have to be careful.  Generally speaking, if a company asks you to pay money for a list then stay away! However, some work at home companies do charge a fee to apply. However  this does not necessarily mean that they are a scam.

What is the money for?

Some charge for the criminal or credit background check. Others charge for the time it takes tor research your work history. Others even go so far as to make you pay for your own drug screening. They will give  you a list of labs in your area and you ve got to get a blood test.  This was the case with 2 of the companies I worked with.  One company a good friend worked for actually what she described as a "huge chunk" out of her hair.  This was for the drug testing.  Evidently, everything you eat, or drink ,or smoke  ends up in our hair.
